Not everyone gets to enjoy life by using their hobby to support their family’s livelihood.

Most of the time our hobbies are what keeps us busy in our leisure time.

This is different for 58-year-old Muliau Maseali’i Sekoa from the village of Fasito’o-uta.

Muliau loves fishing and he enjoys every moment of it.

His love of fishing developed from a young age and it now contributes to his family’s daily livelihood.

“I grew up and this has been my life and it is something I have enjoyed it since I was a kid,” he said to the Village Voice team yesterday while fishing at Fasito’o Uta’s shoreline with a couple of friends.

“Today I am still going strong because I just don’t want to lie around the house doing nothing but fishing with the folks here is having a good time away from everything.”

He said he lived with his two kids who were both working.

“I am living at the moment with my two children both working and they are the ones providing for the family and this is my part in assisting them.

“Whatever I get from fishing will be for our food but we don’t sell it,” he said.

Muliau also gave his opinion on the high cost of living in Samoa.

“Well the cost of living is very high at the moment and the only thing we should do is not just sit around and ready to eat, let’s all work hard with all our family members so we can survive together.

“I have always known that I will be fishing, but mind you, before my children got jobs this was all we had in order to survive.”

And no matter the challenges of life, he still enjoys fishing.

“Well I just enjoy fishing because I love to occupy my time with something and I just don’t want to be an elderly man around our house,” he said.
