‘It was love at first sight’

It was love at first sight. That’s how Paulo Molesi describes how he found the woman of his dreams, Tu’uamaleulua’iali’i.

Yesterday, the two-lovebirds exchanged vows at the Congregational Christian Church at Vaitele-Uta infront of families and friends.

The wedding ceremony was conducted by Reverend Muao Su’a.

Tu’uamaleulua’iali’i Senerita Ta’afuli is the only daughter of Fata Muga and Taulasi of Afega and Gataivai Savai’i. Her maid of honor was Seniatalaepisa Isa’ako.

Paulo Molesi Matagi is the third of five siblings of Lonise Soifuaga and Matagi of Vaitele-Uta. His best man was his friend, Petaia Fuimaono Salamo.

Looking back, Molesi remembers fondly how that day played out. It was at a church service in his village at Vaitele-Uta in 2015.

“Tu’uamaleulua’iali’i was attending church that day with her mother,” Molesi said.

He laughed off how he really wanted to know her but the image of her father kept coming to mind.

“I was afraid of her father, he was a big man. I was worried that I might get an uppercut from the old man.”

“On the next Sunday she was with her father, and because I’m a member of the choir, I prefer sitting at the back.”

“The whole service I didn’t look at our pastor but my eyes were on Tu’ua, thinking of how I can get hold of her.”

“Especially since her father was with her that Sunday, and he seemed really tough.”

Finally, he had enough confidence to approach her.

“If there’s a will – there’s a way,” he kept chanting to himself.

“After the church while her father was chatting with other deacons, I walked straight up to her and I talked to her.”

“In my head, ok, this is my chance and I think I was the first person that greeted Tu’ua when she attended my church. That’s how it all started.”

He said that their love grew and at the beginning of this year he proposed marriage to her. She said ‘yes’.

“She’s the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met...and I’ve already promised the Lord that I will take care of her until I die.”

Following the church service, a reception to celebrate the marriage was held at Sunrise Restaurant.
