One step forward for Uni team

Organising Committee of the Samoa University Netball Team was advised that FISU has approved FISU Oceania use of some its limited self generated funds to support the Samoa NUSF netball team to attend this year’s edition of the World University Championship Netball to be held in Miami.

“The agreed financial support to the NUSF is in the form of guaranteeing payment of the EUR 5000 team registration fee to the WUC netball Organising Committee. As previously noted all other expenses will be the responsibility of the Samoa NUSF. As guarantor FISU Oceania have agreed to pay the registration directly to the WUC OC on the Samoa team’s arrival in Miami” Paulo Ferreira, FISU Director of the World University Championships

The University Sport of Samoa (USS) in partnership with the Netball Samoa (NS) has committed to train a competitive, dynamic and energetic netball team to represent our country at the above mentioned Championship.  This partnership will assist in the establishment of succinct pathways for the identification and development of talented young women with aspirations of becoming an elite netball player and/or a sports administrator.

CEO Netball Samoa Rosemarie Esera is very grateful of the financial assistance, yet, is very mindful that there is still remains a lot work and effort in securing further sponsorship to meet the total budget required of $100,000SAT for the team to compete in the 2nd World netball Championship.  This is a continuous struggle we face when there is a limited pool of local sponsors.  But we are confident of reaching our target with an aggressive awareness and advocacy campaign and pushing the message of education and sport is an alternative pathway for the future.

The Organising Committee are planning to meet with parents of the players and supporters to discuss a fundraising strategy next week.  One of the proposed projects will be to establish a ‘Give A Little” page for our families and supporters both locally and overseas and other fundraising activities.

To date we have received sponsorship from the following:

• Bank of South Pacific - $1000.00

• Digicel Samoa - 5 Huawei Smartphones with 5 SIM prepaid SIM Cards, total value of $995, to assist with fundraising prizes
