People are entitled to their own opinions on different matters.

And when it comes to challenges faced by youth and families, everyone has a different perspective.

The Village Voice caught up with Konelio Vili of 23 years old from Falefa and Vaitele while he was doing some chores around his home where he expressed his thoughts about the challenges in life.

“In my village, the main reason why we have problems with youth is because there are few words of encouragement and no love for families.

“It is true because this is what I see every day around town and even in our village.

Instead of making use of their time, they drink alcohol and cause trouble,” he said.

“They think they are men when they react this way but little do they know people are calling them stupid.”

Life in the village is very simple aside from contributions to village matters.

“ I prefer living in the village.

“We all know that when we talk about rural areas or life in villages, we mean the real Samoa with our very own local and simple style.

“But that’s not always the case. There are many challenges in the village.”

Peace and safety of people are well maintained due to the village councils, he said.

‘I’m talking about our village in Falefa, everyone lives peacefully and enjoys family time.

“We also have the opportunity to participate in village activities at anytime and to learn about our culture.

The village keeps everything together so that everyone can live peacefully he said.

As for other people’s negative views on the cost of living, he strongly disagrees.

“You see the cost of living is just the way it is. Trust me!

“Nothing is ever going to change no matter how many times we complain.

“So quit wasting time complaining but get up and work.”

Konelio’s family depends on his hard working mother for living. She is the only one with a job to help with family matters.

“That’s why I decided to do all the chores at home because I want my mother to just go straight to have a rest after work.

“I used to work until I realized my parents needed help at home.

“But with the way I see my mother struggle to meets our needs and wants I have started looking for a job.

“I need a job where I can be a hair cutter and be recruited anytime anywhere.

“I will work to the best of my abilities.

“ I guarantee you I can do the job.

“I just need to work to help out my family.”
