The TV3 and Apia Broadcasting Corporation have extended their services to hosting a tournament catered for volleyball players in Samoa.

The TV3 National Volleyball League (Smashed Out) kicked off last week Saturday at the N.U.S. Gymnasium for the first leg of the competition.

“The main aim of this competition is to promote volleyball in the country,” the TV3 tournament director, Luapu’a Beauman Fuimaono said.

Luapu’a also said the tournament helped to get both teams from two Volleyball Leagues in Samoa under one roof competing for the best.

“At the moment, there are two Volleyball Leagues in Samoa, there is the Government League and Kennaway Maisa’s League, so the TV3 N.V.L. has invited any team from various leagues to compete under this one tournament.”

The TV3 National Volleyball League is a competition for the whole of Samoa.

The tournament will be played on four consecutive Saturdays, with the first leg featuring all the Upolu teams and the second leg featuring teams from Savai’i.

The third week of the tournament will be the elimination rounds for the top five teams from Upolu and Savai’i.

The fourth and final week of the tournament will be the finals for National Volleyball League (Smashed Out) from the top four teams.

The tournament also aims on promoting gender equality.

“Every team in the competition consist of eight registered players with six players on court, and two substitutes, and must at least two females on court at all times during the competition.”

“It is part of the initiative of Stop Violence against Women and this tournament aligns well in promoting the sport for everyone.”

Eleven teams competed last week for the Upolu tournament, while five teams have moved on through the Upolu top five teams including Fagali’i Volleyball Club, Ohana Alafua, Faleolo Jets A, Paramount Spikers from Aleisa and Friends from Vaitele.

This week will be heading to Savai’i for the Savai’i completion, before coming back for the elimination round and for the finals of the TV3 National Volleyball League (Smashed Out) tournament.
