The descendants of the late Seiuli Polesi and Netini Solomona Lee from Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, United States of America and Samoa gathered in Apia for their annual family reunion at Papauta last week.

The Chairman of the Reunion Committee, Tuifa’asisina Korina Seiuli Lee, said the gathering is for their children to reconnect and form life time bonds.

“Our grandfather is from the villages of Solosolo and Papauta while our grandmother is from Apia, Faleasiu and Papa Sataua and our Matron right now is Rev. Seiuli Atipera Lee and Fetuna Stipera Lee.”

Tuifaasisina said not all members of their family were able to make it.

“This is not even a quarter of the family because there’s so many of them,” she said.

“We started the reunion on Monday where we had a ava ceremony to welcome our family members from overseas and then we had the introduction of all family members. It is an important part of our reunion, reconnecting with each other and meeting new relatives of each families.

“We then went to Savai’i for two days to take our children to our great grandfather’s village in Papa Sataua and also show them where our ancestors are from.

“Some of our children who lived overseas have never seen a faleoo before so we went there to let them see the Samoan life and the way of living.

“It also helps them realise how lucky they are to be able to live life the way they are living right now and never go through the struggle like our ancestors and us their parents have started.”
