Tegel Foods relationship with Frankie’s Supermarket is more than just business, it is about two countries.

Tegel Foods, New Zealand’s biggest chicken producer was invited to the Wine and Food Trade show at the Taumeasina Island Resort yesterday.

They also deal with companies in the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.

Tegel Food Business Manager, Liam Glasgow said: “We are pretty much present in every single Pacific Island. We also export to Australia and Dubai.

“Probably in the East Pacific we see a lot more products from the U.S.A. or South America from Brazil, this is in Solomon Islands, Samoa and Tonga as well,” he shared with Samoa Observer.

“I guess a lot here in Samoa is imported from the U.S.A. cheap, but the quality is not so high, whereas New Zealand chicken is a little bit more expensive, but you got quality products.”

Tegel Foods presence at the Wine and Food Trade show is to show their support for Frankie’s Supermarket.

“We came mainly to support Frankie, but also to try some new products,” Mr. Glasgow said.

Mr. Glasgow said the success of the business is because of the people.

“I think it is because we are looking after our people and having a quality product not compromising on holiday and obviously food safety is very important and having a heritage brand. Tegel has been going for a long time,” Mr. Glasgow explained.

Mr. Glasgow arrived on Sunday and it’s his second time in Samoa, only this time it is for business purposes.

“I really like it. It is quite different from New Zealand, generally the traffic and the countryside, there is not much infrastructure. I think it is really refreshing I like it,” he said.
