Offer them opportunities

Dear Editor,

Re: Faumuina and street vendors

Kids really want to leave school where they at least have a chance at achieving something in their lives for a decent future unlike their struggling parents to sell matches and q-tips, what a future!

Are the teachers stimulating and encouraging them to learn, succeed and have choices?

These kids are being cheap porns and not so cute beggars.

At least offer them training programmes. Teach them a variety of skills on all levels. Use “Grant” Funds. Start apprenticeships.

They could sell their own goods and learn trade from a school shop.

Don’t give them or “their parents” the options of selling q-tips, instead encourage them to manufacture the q-tips.

They could work some weekends if they didn’t have continuous church or family events to commit to. Offer the opportunity of choice to be more than a street vendor.

Ora K.
