Sharing information is power

Dear Editor,

Re: Prevention is always better than cure

Lawyer Leuluaiali’i Olinda Woodroffe is really concerned about the government inaction concerning the Auckland TB outbreak. She wrote to the PM.

While Samoa has got TB firmly in control, some aspects of the Auckland case is worrying. No one knew what caused death until a few days after burial. Not even the caretaker or family members.

As MP Su’a Sio commented, there is something ‘funny’ with this case.

The reaction of our top health executive was equally worrisome. He was reassuring the public and yet his ministry has not received any reply of a request on this they had asked of NZ. They know nothing of the goings and comings of the woman, not even her name.

TB has and incubation period of one to two weeks (webmd). There is a probability that Auckland Regional Public Health Service Clinic is covering up something.

There could be a TB epidemic in NZ which can be traced to newly arrived immigrants especially if they came from countries with poor drinking water and sanitation. It’s happening in European countries that have seen and influx of refugees from middle eastern and African countries.

Auckland Regional Public Health Service Clinic should heed ‘father of the Internet and Google’s Chief Internet Evangelist’ Vinton Cerf when he spoke at the Bluesky Conference Room at Maluafou on the invitation of the Samoa Information Technology Society, where he emphasised that  “sharing of information is power” not hogging information.
