Supporting Junior Paddling Program in Samoa

26 February 2016, 12:00AM

Nafanua Outrigger Canoe Club is hosting a Business House Fundraiser on Saturday 19 March 2016 and they are inviting businesses and organisations to be involved.

The event will raise funds to support the Nafanua Outrigger Canoe Club’s Junior Program, which coaches Samoa’s children in paddling, water safety and caring for our environment and will be held at 9am this Saturday 27th February 2016.

Nafanua’s President, Mamea Samuel Ieremia was happy with the turnout seen in the past two weeks. “It’s a pleasure seeing the young ones come down whether it is raining or sunny to try out paddling. We will start registration for the kids this coming Saturday so that we can capture their age and their ability so that our coaches and trainers can focus on their development.”

“We also look forward to the support from the Business Community that will be participating in our Business House in March, so we can develop this program further in terms of proper paddles and other tools for our kids”, he continued.

Participants in the Business House Fundraiser will:

- Learn how to paddle from experienced club coaches, in the lead up to the day (up to 2 training sessions a week over the upcoming 4 weeks);

- Work together as a team in a new and fun way;

- Have access to boats and paddling equipment;

- Have up to 7 members per team registered;

- Test their new skills and ability on game day (19th March);

- Team Registration is $300.

A BBQ and drinks celebrating the day will be held at Ocean’s Club in Matautu, so participants can continue their banter off the water, and re-live the fun and glory of the day.

Interested organizations can register for the fundraiser by contacting Nafanua Chairman Ulugia Jay Ah-Fook, President Mamea Samuel Ieremia or Secretary Tagaloa Frances Mahealani Te'o (contact details below).

You can also follow our Nafanua Kalapu Alo Paopao Facebook Page for more updates. Upon request of the media, a photo opportunity can be organized of Nafanua Outrigger Canoe Club members, visiting social members, boats and paddles, to accompany any news story written.
