Father talks about sacrifice

Sometimes people have to sacrifice things to make the people they love happy.

This is the reality of Foma’i Ainoa, 27, from Tuanai.

The father of two has to live without his family most of the time because of work commitments.

Mr. Ainoa says he only gets to see his family for two days before heading back to work.

He says that being the only person who works to support his family is the reason he hasn’t left yet.

“I live together with my parents, my brother and my wife and children. I never see them until the weekend which is hard because I have a newborn baby and my parents are not getting any younger either, but the work I do requires me to live at my work site until the weekend,” he said.

Mr. Ainoa is searching for a job that does not require him to stay overnight.

He said their water was disconnected last year and he is now looking for another job.

“My biggest problem right now is no water supply. We have been trying to look for some money to reconnect our water and since we have no more tap water, we get our water from our neighbour.

“There are so many things in our home that needs fixing, but we cannot do much about it because I cannot afford it,” he added.

The expensive cost of living has also left him struggling with paying the bills and for food.

“I usually receive around $100, but when we do overtime I get around $180. The minute I get paid there is already something assigned for the money.”
