The Samoa Fire and Emergency Services manpower has been given a boost with the graduation of 34 officers last Friday.

Their passing out occurred in a ceremony on Friday afternoon at the EFKS Hall, Mulinuu.

There were a total of 30 male and four female cohorts in a class that also included recruits from Savai’i.

Prime Minister Dr. Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi was on hand to congratulate the graduates and warned that their job was not easy, especially with the world currently dealing with the effects of climate change.

As an example, he made reference to the deadly fires in California in the U.S. and the death toll from the calamity, saying the intensity of fires like that will only increase in the future.

Tuilaepa said he expects the new firefighters to be reliable and ready to serve the country as the first responders to a fire, before congratulating them on their decision to serve the country.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards for the top students. The most disciplined recruit certificate was awarded to Raymond Iosefo while the top female and male recruit 2018 certificates were presented to Sara Ese Vaalele and Daniel Toluono.
