Even with Christmas just moments away, Rosa Tagaloa-Louise, from the village of Toamua, was spotted yesterday still working hard at her small roadside food stall.

Aged 30, Rosa explains that the reason why she works very hard is because she feels sad that the family relies so much on her husband to take care of things financially.

So she started up her small business recently to help make a bit of money and to take some pressure off of her husband.

“I just started up this business recently so being a businesswoman is new to me,” she told the Village Voice.

“The father of the family is currently overseas and he sends over some money every now and then to help us out but the way I see it, I can also make my own money.”

“I can’t just rely on the money from my husband because there are too many things that we need to do within our family.”

“That’s why I started up this small business; I need it to take care of my children because they are very young. I just want to help out my husband because I know that I have the ability to make some money too.”

Rosa says that through her small business, she makes the most of the opportunity she has to teach her children a few life lessons.

One of those lessons is not to rely on others when you have the strength to get what you want and need yourself.

“All of my children are currently schooling,” Rosa said.

“Another reason I started this business was because if I go and look for employed work, I won’t be able to stay home and take care of the children.”

“When my children have time off from school then they help me out. I try and teach them while they help me so that when they grow up, they know that you shouldn’t only rely on others.”

“The way I see it, I would rather do this to help take pressure off of my husband and take care of the kids than to go and work and leave the kids at home.”

Asked for any issues the family faces, Rosa says that the high cost of living is the only problem they currently have.

“When it comes to the cost of living, everyone has their own opinion,” she said.

“For me, life is expensive. Whenever I visit the nearby store and I look at the prices, it’s hard to avoid how expensive everything has become.”

“But that’s why we all need to try and work hard. We have to build a mindset that will help us beat the high cost of living. If you just sit around then you won’t get anywhere in life.”

“You also have to try and manage your money wisely.”
