Popular Samoan feature film, Three Wise Cousins, has won an Audience Award at the Festival des Antipodes in France.

After making waves and winning over audiences in 2016, Three Wise Cousins, the self-funded and self-distributed feature film screened with French subtitles at the Festival Des Antipodes in St Tropez, France.

Now in its 20th year the Festival Des Antipodes screens films from Australia and New Zealand.

Writer and Director, Stallone Vaiaoga-Ioasa (SQS) travelled to St Tropez to introduce his film and hold a Q & A session with the audience.

“I wasn’t sure how the film would be received whether the comedy would translate, but through the screening there were plenty of laughs. And after the screening there was a huge applause and a lot of cheering. I would say the film was really well received. A few people have never heard of Samoa but they really appreciated the heart of the story and it’s message about family and culture – things that are universal.”

The reception for Three Wise Cousins (it’s French title is ‘Cousin des Iles’) led it to receiving the Audience Award at the Festival des Antipodes

An award based on voting from the Audience.

Vaiaoga-Ioasa noted that the numerous conversations with festival patrons about Three Wise Cousins showed him that stories from the Pacific can have an impact on audiences on the other side of the world, and there is an audience eager to see such stories.
