The sad truth about Samoa today

Dear Editor,

Re: Family’s legal claim over land in Court

“The P.M. is floating on the rule and law of the land”

Yeah! He probably has no ground for his argument.

“The mistakes was by Mataafa when he promised to give it to that family, but I think it was a verbal agreement without evidence or legal document to prove that promise”

The fact that the Tokuma family even exist on the land without being kicked out immediately, is evidence and proof enough that the land was promised and given.

The fact that the Tokuma family exists on the land for over 100 years without previous government interference is evidence and proof enough that the land was promised and given.

When Samoan people speak especially leaders and matais, their words are binding, the spirit in which the Samoan leaders speak carries much more weight of truth than any legal documents signed with pen and paper.

If the mistake was by Mata’afa, that’s not the fault of the Tokuma family.

But sadly today’s leaders are hypocrites in what they say; there isn’t an ounce of truth in it, no weight of honesty either.

They do one thing then they criticize others for doing the same thing.
