BETWEEN THE LINES

Who sponsored trip?

The Miss Samoa pageant earlier this month ensured all eyes were on the big island of Savai’i. So much so that the checking-in of two ministers, a C.E.O. and an A.C.E.O. into a hotel there raised eyebrows. Their ministry has no connection to the pageant’s administration so just wondering who funded their trip over?

Samoan proverb

On Thursday the S.R.U. C.E.O said the decision by the panel over the new coach has to be approved by the S.R.U. board. The very next day, the C.E.O. issued a press release announcing the new head coach and this time the C.E.O. said the board agreed that whatever was the panel decision, that’s it. BTL is reminded of the Samoan proverb e iai e fa’alele e iai e maitau. Seriously guys.

Why the silence?

In July this year the S.R.U. were excited about the revision of its Constitution. The reforms included a chop in the number of Board members. However, after the election process, the S.R.U. went quiet on the new members elected to the Board so B.T.L. is wondering why the silence?

Church member’s pockets

More than half a million tala was spent on a pastor’s residence in Magiagi. The C.C.C.S. parish was also proud of that fact that the home was not funded by loans. Does that mean it was funded out of the church members’ own pockets?

A friend or foe?

The N.U.S. recently announced the opening of the China-connected Confucius Institute. But the facility is being seen around the world as part of the communist regime’s soft-power strategy. An award-winning documentary on the institute was banned recently at an Australian university.
