Working for a better future

When you are surrounded with people who love you; you will stop at nothing to give them a better life.

Some say they will climb the mountains for their families and this is all out of love.

It is with this work ethic and this spirit that will bring success to our families and our children in the future.

Telesia Teleofa from Tuana’i knows this.

The 72 year old is a school teacher at Pesega.

“I’ve been a teacher for a long time; I think since 1990 up to now,” she says to the Village Voice team. “This is my work to support my own family.

“I am truly thankful to still have the energy to use this opportunity to help out the kids of this country.

“Although life may not be the same anymore as it was before, nothing is that easy especially getting opportunities to help kids through teaching.”

Telesia spoke about the many changes today regarding technological issues.

“Back then, we didn’t worry too much about our kids like we do now because these days; there’s technology and almost every child has access to the internet.

“Sure there’s a good side to this but then there’s also a bad side. Why? Because Children don’t know how to control their time when it is spent on technology and they forget that there are more important things.

“I know life is hard but if we don’t help our kids and teach them in the right way then it’s going to be even harder than it is now.

“We have all got to work; we have all got to play our own role for our families and children to stay sane and safe.

“But don’t bother too much about the fact that nothing can be changed because there’s always something that you can do. If you can work to make your own money then you can help make a change.”
