Primary Schools from Faleata District celebrated a milestone on Friday.

The under 14 - XV aside team won the Prime Minister’s Cup tournament after they snatched the top spot from finalist Vaimauga district with score 8 - 5.

There were seven districts from Upolu and Savai’i that competed in the annual event.

It was a memorable win for the primary school boys that bounded in the week long tournament.

Secretary of Faleata district principals, Tonu’u Fuamoli Amituanai Misi commended the initiative.

“The tournament was a good opportunity for the schools to fellowship and bond,” said Tonu’u.

“It really helped to build their self esteem and it disciplined them to play together as brothers on the field. That bond reflected on the field with how they took care of each other and played as a team.”

According to Tonu’u the event brought together a division that is often seen amongst government schools and private schools.

In the buildup of the tournament the students camped together and put aside their differences.

President of Faleata district principals, Ferilamasina Su’a acknowledged the support of the parents and M.P. and Associate Minister, Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi.

The winning team was made up of primary schools in Vaimea, Vaimoso, Vaitele, Vailoa, Vaiusu, Saina & Toamua, Aele, Aleisa and Marist Brothers.

The seven districts that competed were Vaimauga, Faleata, A’ana, Safata 1 & 2 and Fa’asaleleaga no1 and no2.

The Prime Minister’s Cup tournament was an initiative by the Ministry of Education and Sports and Culture implemented in 2011 to promote health and talent identification for children.

The aim is to start training and prepare students from an early stage.
