Following the successful launch of the 2015 University of Auckland (UoA) Alumni and Friends reception in Samoa, numerous social gatherings were organised by the UoA Samoa alumni network in an effort to initiate a membership drive.

Given the recent achievements of some of UoA’s distinguished alumni (i.e., graduates), most of whom have decided to forego opportunities overseas, the critical backlash confronted the underlying concerns about the lack of collective endorsement and status of locally based alumni.

To address this moving forward, Alumni and guests have been invited to attend the UoA Samoa Alumni’s networking event on July 7th (locally sponsored by Crichton Pointon Consultancy) to revive alumni membership, meet other local alumni, expand networks and discuss planning for the end of year reception to celebrate the achievements of UoA’s distinguished Samoan alumni including Fuiavailili Erna Rasmussen Takazawa, the University of Auckland 2017 Young Alumna of the Year for leading optometry in Samoa and contributing to improving eye care in the Oceanic region.

In an effort to improve engagement, a local alumni database is being developed to better connect with both current UoA students and former UoA graduates residing in Samoa.  The UoA Samoa alumni network is therefore calling all alumni to register their contact details by contacting the UoA Voluntary Alumni Coordinator.

Other University of Auckland Samoa alumni include:

• Prime Minister of Samoa, Tuilaepa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi;

• Patu Tiava'asu'e Falefatu Sapolu, Chief Justice of Samoa;

• Lemalu Hermann Retzlaff, Attorney General of Samoa;

• Su’a Hellene Wallwork, President of the Samoa Law Society;

The UoA Samoa alumni network is therefore calling all alumni to register their contact details by contacting the UoA Voluntary Alumni Coordinator.
