$60,000 drug bust

Drugs estimated to be worth $60,000 was intercepted at the Faleolo International Airport this week.

Methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice”, was discovered by the Police and the Customs K9 Unit on Tuesday evening in a suitcase that belongs to a man in his 40's. 

The accused was a passenger of a Fiji Airways flight from Nadi to Apia.

The K9 alerted the authorities to the suitcase.

The man was stopped, searched and questioned.

He was immediately charged with possession of narcotics and has been placed in Police custody at Tafa’igata Prison, to await his Court appearance. 

Police Superintendent, Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo, said the drugs weighed around 26.6grams.

 “A 43-year-old male suspect has been arrested and charged with possession of narcotics,” he said.

“He is to be remanded at custody until the 30th of April."

“The drugs were found in the suitcase by the Joint Police and Customs K9 unit." 

 “The drugs weigh around 26.6grams with an estimated street value of T$60, 000,” said Auapa’au. 

The last time there was a drug bust of methamphetamine at the Fagali’i Airport was last year July, which involved two men aged 42 and 45. 

The package from American Samoa went through the x-ray machine where the ice was detected. 

The Police were contacted right away and they responded and confirmed that it was meth, weighing 5.9grams.
