Samoa to take world stage

The Electric Power Corporation (E.P.C.) and Samoa Water Authority (S.W.A.) will take the global center stage later this month in Hawaii at the World Fire Knife Dancing Championships.

As a token of appreciation for their dedication and responding effectively to the needs of Samoa after Cyclone Gita, two of Samoa’s contenders for the World Fire Knife Dancing Championships will be flag carriers for E.P.C. and S.W.A.

Siva Afi is sending three top performers to the World Champs.

They include Vaelaa Iloa, a Pacific Arts Festival champion as well as Teuila Festival and Siva Avi International Champion who will be the flag carrier for S.W.A.

Alema Alema, also a Teuila Festival Champion will represent E.P.C. with Walter Leota competing in the Intermediate Division.

The acknowledgment, according to Siva Afi Founder, Leota Lene Leota is not only a token of appreciation but also to profile commitment by public servants to serving the people of Samoa.

Now in its 25th year, the World Fireknife Championship was established by the Polynesian Culture Center to showcase this proud Samoan tradition and perpetuate it for future generations to embrace.
