Hard work overcomes problems

Our struggles of today will prepare a better future for our children.

That’s the opinion of Ioane Fiso, 36-years-old from Leauvaa and Vaitoomuli, Savaii.

Although it’s a tough life, the father of two says we just have to move on and try to overcome the challenges with whatever we have.

“These days are far different from the olden days,” he said.

“The cost of living has become so expensive we can hardly afford it.”

Mr. Fiso works at Frankie’s Wholesale Homemaker at Vaitele.

The money he earns is used to buy his family’s daily needs.

“There are only four of us living in our family,” he said.

“My wife stays home and looks after our kids but I work to earn more money to provide for family. I earn more than $200tala in a week which is enough for my family.

“We only spend our money for water and electricity bills but we do have savings for our children’s school fees.”

Ioane’s life is all about his children.

“Even though the cost of living is too high but we give our children the best life with what we earn.

But it’s not just his job he relies on.

“We use our plantation as our source of food for our family. We don’t sell it because there is no one of us to go to the market and sell it so this is very helpful saving some money for our kids.”
