A team of former St. Joseph’s College students have claimed the title of the inaugural School of Origin Golf tournament, organised as part of the Marist Sports Week.

S.J.C. collected the best score of 173, based on the best nett of the school’s three top teams, during yesterday’s tournament at the Faleata Golf Course.

Samoa College finished second with 183, Chanel College third with 185 followed by Avele College in fourth place with 187.

The best gross score of 66 was shot by S.J.C. #2, a team consisting of Tagata Faasolo and Levao Iulai Lesa.

The tournament rekindled old school rivalry in the best of ways. Friends, colleagues and golf buddies went head to head and managed to finish just before the downpours in the afternoon.

There were prizes galore sponsored by S.S.A.B, including one particularly interesting prize where a brand new washing machine was placed on the fairway at hole no. 1.

The tournament was organised by the Marist Brothers Old Pupils Association and members of the Very Manaia Golf School as part of the Marist Sports Week.

It was superbly run by the President of the Very Manaia Golf School, Fanene Samau Sefo and his team including Aumua Ming Leung Wai.

All teams competing had the chance to win prize money for their former schools totaling almost $4,000.

There were also many excellent individual team prizes including electronics, washing machines, office furniture and more.

The prize giving was held at the Marist Brothers Old Pupil’s Lounge at St Joseph’s College, Alafua, last night.
