The sudden passing of Detective Inspector Maotaoali’i Kaioneta Kitiona is an extremely sad occasion for the Samoa Police Service.

Maotaoali’i died from a sudden illness when he was on duty at the funeral of music maestro, Dr. Ueta Solomona, at the beginning of the week.

In a statement issued by the Police yesterday, it says they are mourning the death of a hard working Police officer who was committed to his role.

“The Samoa Police Service mourns the death of one of its senior officers who died in the line of duty yesterday (Monday),” the statement reads.

“Detective Inspector Taupauomalo Maotaoali’i Kaioneta Aliisolia Kitiona passed away whilst commanding a team of officer undertaking ball bearer duties for the late Ueta Solomona’s funeral. His sudden and unexpected passing is devastating to us all.”

The statement goes on to talk about Maotaoali’i’s work.

“At times like this, we look back and celebrate the life of an officer who served Samoa through the Samoa Police for 20 years. He started in the Samoa Police as a firefighter.”

“Later he was promoted and worked in areas such as the Commissioner’s Office, Traffic, General Policing, Community Engagement Unit, Domestic Violence and currently as the officer in-charge for the Faleata police post.”

“He was also allocated the role of media liaison officer for the Samoa Police. He also served in the United Nation as a peacekeeping officer. Maotaoali’i as he is known to his work colleague is passionate about policing and his Samoan culture and aiga.”

“The S.P.S, Commissioner, Executive and all of us offer our sincerest condolences to his family, his wife and children. Revelation 14 verse 13 ‘Then I heard a voice from heaven say, ‘“Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labour, for their deeds will follow them”.

“He will be dearly missed. Manuia lau malaga. Fly high Maota!”
