Transparency? Accountability? It’s a joke

Dear Editor,

Re Police Bill

P.M. Tuilaepa again has come up with a new Bill to give the Cabinet the power to remove a Police Commissioner and the Assistant Police Commissioner if the Police Dept comes into disrepute.

“Tuilaepa added that if there is ever a time that the Police Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner had some mental problems it will be difficult to make a quick decision on it without having to wait for the Inquiry. “

I don’t think there ever was a Police Commissioner or Assistant Commissioner who had a mental problem but PM Tuilaepa does.

Also, when MP Peniamina asked for clarification on who will be enforcing the termination of the police top posts, rather than give him an appropriate answer, PM Tuilaepa told him to get his ears checked instead!

Wait a minute PM Tuilaepa – it is you who needs to get your ears checked and while you at it, have your mental problem checked out too as I believe you’ve been suffering from it for a long time.

I also believe you are suffering from Alzeihmers too. You see PM Tuilaepa, your belittling comments, name-calling and the utter disrespect you’ve shown towards the Tamali’i of this nation is another reason why I call you names.

It appears to me you’re trying to blame everyone else but yourself in regards to these Bills. Remember, It was you alone and your H.R.P.P who passed the POLICE SERVICE ACT 2009 BILL that cost the taxpayers an arm and a leg – not MP Peniamina or MP Olo Fiti. Now you get to see how dumb you were back then and it’s even worse now.

For a government to have all this power to remove a Police Commissioner or Assistant Police Commissioner, will not work in favor of the people but will serve the interest of PM Tuilaepa and H.R.P.P Party.

This is just another scam Bill that will enable PM Tuilaepa and H.R.P.P to dictate the Police Commissioner and the Assistant Police Commissioner, removing the Rights of these employees to have a say, defend themselves and most importantly, they will be unable to perform their duties to their fullest potential. This sort of system can only work in a government that believes and practices transparency and accountability – NOT with this government under PM Tuilaepa’s leadership.

PM Tuilaepa and his govt have no problem celebrating Toilet Day with all the bells and whistles but when it comes to Anti Corruption Day, they refuse to as they are in denial of the corruption against the people of this nation. As I said many times before, this PM seriously needs to be assessed by a Psychiatrist.

The question to PM Tuilaepa and H.R.P.P – why are you so afraid of establishing an Anti Corruption Tribunal let alone celebrate Anti Corruption Day?

You and your government established the National Prosecutions Office (N.P.O) as well instead of an Anti Corruption Tribunal.

All these lawyers employed in the N.P.O now were lawyers who were previously employed in the Office of the Attorney General and were involved in covering up the wrongdoing in the government and they recommended laws to the government - corrupt laws that removed the power from the people and bestowed upon yourself.

You can change the system as much as you want to but it will still not remove the corruption from within the government where the root cause of corruption stemmed from.
