Keynote to open Samoa Police Exhibit Building.

I am pleased to be here today as the Minister of the Samoa Police Service, to officially open this magnificent new Records and Exhibit Building as well as accepting on behalf of the Samoa Police a number of assets from the Samoa Australia Police Partnership project.

I have been informed that the Samoa Australia Police Partnership (S.A.P.P.) has now delivered a suite of projects to support the infrastructure and the investigate capacity of the Samoa Police Service (SPS). This has included;

1: The renovation of the Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D.) and Domestic Violence Unit (D.V.U.)

2: The installation of a dedicated Case Management System (Police Pro)

With this new Records and Exhibit Office, the safe storage of all police exhibits will allow for successful prosecution of police cases before court. This purpose built faculty allows sufficient and appropriate storage of both exhibits and files, as well as a front office capacity of dealing with the general public. The single storage location and dedicated exhibit team will significantly improve exhibit handling procedures.

With the Police Pro Case Management System, there is now the capacity to not only accurately record exhibits and seizures relating to police investigations, but also track its movements within the Samoa Police Services up until exhibits are presented in court prosecution.

Overall the Samoa Australia Police partnership (S.A.P.P.) has spent approximately $800.00 WST to establish this fully operation office, with equipment and a dedicated vehicle.

Furthermore, the Samoa Australia Pollice Partnership is able to provide even further assets to the S.P.S. This includes;

•  Another 2017 Hyundai Tuscon for the Police Pro / I.T. team

•  A Toyota Hilux for the driver training

•  A Toyota troop carrier

•  3 specialised police crime scene kits

•  90 body bags

•  14 refurbished computer towers, computer screens and keyboards

The total cost of the S.A.P.P. donation is valued at more than a million tala. The gifting of these items will significantly assist the S.P.S. in the development of their capacity to actively investigate both domestic and transnational crimes, and remain as a leader in Policing in the Pacific.

Again I want to thank the Australian Government for its on-going support to the people of Samoa and to the Samoan Police Service. As the Minister responsible for this portfolio I recognised the need to raise the standard of our policing service in order to project the lives and proprieties of members of our community.

I now declare this Records and Exhibits building open. God bless the Australian Government, God Bless Samoa!

Soifua ma ia Manuia
