The Komiti o Feau Eseese has asked the General Assembly of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa for an additional $2million to complete the renovations of the John Williams building.

This is according a copy of its report for the 2018 Conference, which is held in Malua this week.

The six-page report leaked to the Samoa Observer points to a number of issues that are to be discussed during the conference.

These include the leasing of church lands, the payment plans for the $15 million loan to the S.N.P.F. and ways to decrease the electricity bill of the Malua compound.

“The repairs are underway and F.P.A. construction is tasked to patch up the body and internal, K.E.W. Consult Ltd works on the water, V.C.D. will patch up the ceiling and efforts are placed on getting a company for the electrical side of things,” the report reads.

This will come from the $3 million already approved for the renovations.

Also the Ottis Company, who services the elevators, has recommended the need for new elevators.

“We are requesting the committee for an additional $2 million to assist with the renovations. And as indicated by the Clerk of Works for the F.P.A. Construction Company, $2 million will indeed complete the entire project.”

The report further states that there is a need to reconsider the Church’s options in terms of electricity for the entire Malua compound because of the high electricity bill the church pays.

The report points out the Church’s Secretary met Chief Executive Officer of E.P.C, Tologata Tile Tuimalealiifano, who recommended two options.

“First to hire an engineer to evaluate all the electrical aspects of the compound and whatever the results of the assessment and recommendations should be followed."

“Secondly to convert to cash power each building including offices and residential to assure the electricity is well mannered.”

The report also notes that each “pulega” should pay their own electricity bills.  Furthermore, the street lights on the road and inside the compound are paid by the Church.

Another recommendation is to minimise the utilisation of the air conditions in the buildings. Also for the Principal of the Theological College to have policies in place to counter the usage of electricity in the school, such as eliminating the use of air condition in the classrooms and establish policies for usage of electrical kitchenware.

Another issue highlighted in the report is that the committee has put an end to the leasing of properties that belong to the Church.

The report did not specify how many properties it owns, however it points out that due to the “issue that arose out of the land in Tiapapata near the –Laumata o Apaula and land at the Lamosa road also in Tiapapata”, the committees seeks the Church to eliminate any future plans to lease the Church lands.
