PR – A training on Disaster Risk Management training was held last week.

It was designed to introduce risk tools and the RiskScape tool by taking participants step-by-step through the case study hazard scenarios identified by stakeholders during the design workshop held in September 2015.

An in-depth demonstration of the RiskScape tool was carried out, including a discussion of how the tool may be used to support current national disaster risk reduction priorities and activities.

On the final day, training on data collection methods for developing a hazard model in RiskScape was provided through the development of a disaster scenario and a field trip exercise to collect the associated asset data.

The data collected by the participants was then entered into RiskScape and the initial scenario model results were displayed.

In addition, a higher level in-country data collection and management meeting involving key D.M.O staff and other relevant data management stakeholders was held.

Through this data management meeting, the project team engaged with in-country data management stakeholders, learning about existing data, and identifying the challenges and applications.

From this meeting, a detailed data management action plan will be formulated regarding the level of data that can be obtained in the project period and the existing data management processes in Samoa (including in-country data management system design and development, field data collection tool and training).
