Meet Myla Abejaron, from Melbourne, Australia.
The young woman and her partner arrived in Samoa last week Saturday.
“I’ve always wanted to come to this island because my boyfriend is half Samoan,” she said.
Myla is originally from the Philippines but has lived in Australia most of her life. They are spending their holidays in Samoa to attend a cousin’s wedding.
The couple came directly from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Savaii, where they stayed four nights before coming to Upolu to spend six nights.
Myla shared her first impression of Samoa with Dear Tourist.
“It is absolutely beautiful. Compared to Honolulu, the weather here is so much better. The people here are different as well, they are super friendly.
“In Hawaii, there are a lot of tourists and the whole island is westernized. In Samoa, there’s a lot more culture to see. We did not meet a lot of locals in Hawaii.”
To see a culture and interact more with the locals are important parts of exploring a new country. What they missed in Hawaii, they found it here in Samoa.
The couple had already seen a lot in Savaii. They went to the Alofaaga Blowholes and the waterfalls.
“We stayed as well in a fale. We have been almost alone and the beach was so near, it was wonderful. What I liked the most was the blowholes. They were fun,” she shared.
It is Myla’s first time in Samoa, but she considers returning.
“Compared to Melbourne, Samoa is laid back and life is very different from the busy life back at home where everything is just so fast.
“It is definitely a good relaxing place for holidays,” she said.
“I like it how it is, but one thing that we had been looking for were restaurants, they were quite difficult to find. It is not that westernised I admire that, but it is not easy for tourists to find even the tourist spots.
“For example, we missed the sign for the blowholes because they were almost not even readable. So I had to use my international roaming, but when you do not have that, it can be a big problem,” she explained.
But overall, Myla has enjoyed her time in Samoa and is already looking forward to returning.
