Students pay tribute to sacrifice

As the country prepares to commemorate Good Friday tomorrow, St. Mary’s Primary took the opportunity to mark the occasion yesterday with their annual Easter programme.

The students did more than celebrate Good Friday though. Not only did they relive the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, they also celebrated his resurrection through songs and dances.

The event attracted a large crowd to the school yesterday.

The students performed songs, skits and evangelic dances to commemorate what Jesus had done for the world.

Principal, Sister Masela Tenisio, said the programme has been part of the school for 50 years.

“This is to commemorate the importance of this week,” she said. “It’s an opportunity to think hard about what our Jesus Christ did for us.

“Even though we all know that He has risen again, but we should always remember the sacrifice that He made on that cross just so we can all live.

“This event not only prepares the children but also all of us Christians for this week.”

Most importantly, she said the programme will help the children to never forget about the real reason for Easter.

“Our children need to be reminded all the time of what Jesus did for all of us.

“They should always be reminded as well of the gift that He gave us when He went on that cross.

“May this week bring a new beginning to many of us and may we learn how to forgive as Jesus forgave those who sacrificed Him.”
