Education is basically a driving factor to achieving success.

And for Lemaefe Sasite, from the village of Vavau, getting his eight children to school is the first step to helping them have a better future. 

The 51-year-old shared with the Village Voice team that his dream of helping his children is hindered by the lack of financial support. 

Since school starts in the next few days, he is in dire need for help because no one in his family works and they rely heavily on their plantation for survival.

“It is that time of the year again where our kids return to school and we are the kind of family that works hard to earn a living although we may not earn much, we work towards helping our children get a stable life.

“I have seven children; my eldest child is now married and has her own little family. I have one other daughter who is in college now, while the other four in primary school and two little ones are in kindergarten,” he said.

Mr. Sasite said despite both him and his wife being unemployed, they work the land for the sake of their children.

“Taro from the plantation and collecting coconuts is where we get money from to buy sugar and things like that which we need in our house,” he added.

With the increasing cost of living, Mr. Sasite believes people such as himself, who don’t have jobs find it hard to afford things from the shops.

He added despite his family’s situation, everything is okay in terms of water and electricity because they live close to the main road.
