Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, has praised farmers on the big island of Savai’i for their contribution to the development of the agriculture sector in Samoa.

Tuilaepa spoke during the opening of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries annual Agriculture Show at Salelologa, last Friday.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa was joined by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Le Mamea Ropati Mualia, Cabinet Ministers and government officials to inspect the variety of agricultural products on show.

“The theme for this year’s show is ‘agriculture and fisheries is the future of families, villages and the country’,” said Tuilaepa.

“This show is not only to showcase the work by the farmers, but it is also to encourage them that this is their future...through planting and growing of the products.”

“We need to encourage that with the work on their plantation, and also, through fisheries, they will be able to build their families with the work of their hands.”

The show ended on Saturday with a prizegiving. Ah Liki Wholesale sponsored the event, giving out $3,000 worth of cash prizes and $4,000 worth of consolation prizes.
