Despite the rain yesterday, children from 32 pre-schools turned out in numbers for a ‘Day in the Sun.

The event, supported by the Sinaupualofa Trust, was held at the Samoa Football Federation Field at Tuanaimato.

Director of Sinaupualofa Trust, Kuinimeri Tamati said the idea behind Day in the Sun was to create an opportunity for children to gather and enjoy a day of fun.

“Despite the rain, I can still see the enthusiasm among the children as they are so beautiful with their costumes.

“It is also a chance for children to enjoy and be happy because it is part of Sinaupualofa Trust’s vision to strengthen families.

“Children will have fun, eat and play and do whatever they want. I am hoping that when they grow up, they will be good and loving mothers and fathers to their children as well.

“The children also had the chance to compete in a song competition and a poster competition that symbolizes the 'Stop the Violence' message within families.

“This is the first time that such event has been held and we are hoping to continue this event in the coming years but that all depends on the money we get to fund the event.”

The Samoa Football Association donated 500 balls to the participating pre-schools in the hopes of promoting the sport among the students.

Principal of Congregational Christian Church pre-school at Saleaumua, Matalena Pati Vili said: “This is the first time such an event has taken place but I can see that they are so happy to be part of it and making new friends.”

The Saleaumua Congregational Christian Church of Samoa pre-school was established in 2003 and 40 students are enrolled in the school.

Out of 110 pre-schools in the country, 32 pre-schools participated at the event.
