A Medical delegation from Guangdong Province in China has been helping Samoa for the past two days.

Working with the National Health Services at Moto’otua, the delegation also donated equipment for the national hospital.

According to Dr. Hai Rihan and Professor Zhang Xinyu, the visit was part of a partnership between Samoa and hospitals in Guangdong province.

The programme started in 2012 but this is the first time they have had a delegation visit Samoa and do practical work on patients here.

The delegation included a Cardiologist specialist, Ophthalmologist specialists and a team of Physicians. 

Chinese treatment widely known as acupuncture, which is used to deal with back pain, joint pains and other ailments, was also introduced to the hospital. 

Dr. Hai said she treated many local patients on Monday and the feedback was very positive.

 “They came back today and said the pain is gone, and they feel much better,” said Dr. Hai. 

“Although it was just a two-day visit, it has been very positive. We are coming back again and we will stay longer to treat more patients.” 

Professor Zhang, who is an Optometrist specialist, said this was her second time in Samoa.

 “We are looking forward to come back and staying longer. Because there is a waiting list of more than 100 patients who need treatment.”

The team is heading to Vanuatu before they return home to China.
