Take a measured approach to life

Choices are part of everyday life.

And the decision we make either has a positive or negative outcome.

“I mean whether the decision is big or small, you should always be cautious and learn valuable lessons from each choice that you make,” 20-year-old Sao Lio told the Village Voice team on Saturday.

Sao is one of the 69 people selected to go and work in Italy for a period of nine months.

“Honestly I learn a lot from my family, and we all know family is the first classroom for any child.”

He said everyone makes choices every day.

“You may not even be aware of the choices that you make because of the unimportance of it to you at the time.

“For example, when your parents tell you to do something but you make your own choice and do it your own way and then you fail.

“Even in workplaces, there are decisions that you must make at work, school, church and even the village you live in plays a big role in the person that you are.”

Sao added: “What we as individuals can do is make certain the decisions we make steer us towards the right path.

“Most important, it’s part of our everyday life, whether it is keeping our house clean, cleaning the windows, we do it because it’s a choice.

How can we make the right choices?

“Listen to our elders, especially our parents and by doing so, we are honouring them as well, because the Bible says so.

“The lessons that you learn from them and the lessons that you acquire throughout life by making choices play a tremendous part in how you will handle the next situation that you encounter.

“These lessons may be good or bad but they become a very valuable part in one’s life especially the life of Samoan children.”
