Children, grand children and great grand childrent of Peseta and Mualavau Taofiga celebrated the 91 years of their dearest mother, grandma and great grandma, Mualavau Fuimaono-Peseta Taofiga last Sunday.

With her birthday on 16th of October, the family gathered at Pu’apu’a, Savai’i for a day of rejoicing and thanksgiving.

They expressed gratefulness to the Almighty Father in Heaven for blessing Mualavau with many years of living.  Mualavau is from the village of Salani Falealili, married to the late Peseta Tauti Seali’imalietoa Taofiga, of Puapua and Patamea.  A mother of ten children, she is living proof of God’s blessings upon a woman who has been faithful to raise generations of her family, with her husband passing away in May 1999.

“At this point, the stage of her health is not the same anymore as she is growing older but the children and families witness their mother’s smiling and with excitement on her birthday,” a statement from the family said. At the birthday, Mualavau said she continues to praise God for his never-ending love on her. Seeing her children happy and living in unity brightens her days and makes her even happier.

Reverend Aperaamo Tufuga, of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa, at Puapua, congratulated the elderly mother.

He praised God for her life, quoting the 5th commandment about “Honouring thy father and thy mother.”  “Ninety one years isn’t a common number of years in as far as age goes in our country but for Mua it is God’s unconditional love upon her which led her to this day,” he said. “We ask God to continue blessing the life of this mother, your long living life in this world is your service to our God through his ministerial mission.”

As the birthday was on Sunday, the 3 generations came together for a to’onai to celebrate this very rare but significant occasion to their live.

Birthday greetings also came in from her children overseas as well as some of her friends in the village as well as Rev Aperaamo & Annie her spiritual blessing who were saying the prayer for her birthday celebration.
