Sports Lotto backs Hockey
The development of hockey in Samoa received a major financial boost yesterday.
It happened when the Chief Executive Officer of Samoa Gambling Control Authority, Tuala Siaki Tuala, presented the Samoa Hockey Federation with a cheque of SAT$5,000 at the Samoa Sports Lotto Office.
Present to accept the donation were the Vice President, Peta Mualia-Te’o and Treasurer Filipo Strickland from the Samoa Hockey Federation.
According to Mrs. Mualia-Te’o, the money will be used to help develop the sport both in Upolu and Savai’i.
For Mrs. Mualia Te’o, hockey has a great future in Samoa.
“This is a really good sport. We don’t get paid to do this. We’re here for the love of sport and any age, 5 upwards, are most welcome to come and join.”
There are eight local teams in Apia, with the ages ranging from 13 years and over.
The teams are involved in tournaments every Saturday afternoon at the hockey field in Tuana’imato.
