TV3 rallies support for Samoa’s World Champion

TV3 is set to host a spiritual rally in support of Lupesoliai La’auli Joseph Parker this Sunday.

Lupesoliai will take on Anthony Joshua in the first major boxing bout in Cardiff, Wales.

The special church service will be held at the Apia Matafele Methodist Church at 5pm.

TV3 General Manager, Verona Parker said it is one of the ways to get behind Samoa’s champion.

“Joseph Parker will be fighting thousands of miles away from home and most likely the majority of the crowd there will dominantly be Joshua’s supporters, but there the spirit of God will proceed for him and for us who pray for him,” she said.

“And I believe Joseph doesn’t work on alone. I’m sure he’s had his challenges in life. And maybe he’s been having a lot of support from both the community, people who believe in his ability and of course the man above who provides all those skills and expertise that has made him a World Champion to date.”

“So my TV3 team and I felt that it was appropriate to perhaps rally the support of the community through the one thing that we do know and do best and that is to submit to God everything that’s beyond our ability to control.”

“We’re calling on that spirit from our community regardless of what religion he worships, who he is, whether we’re related or not, but I think it’s something that we should be proud of that he is representing us so far away.”

“So one of the campaigns TV3 has put in place includes this special pre-service on Sunday 25th of March and everyone is welcome to attend.”

Mrs. Parker said for many years TV 3 has been behind our boxers from the time of David Tua and when Lupesoliai was still a young boxer.

She says her team is working to provide live coverage of Lupesoliai’s fight.

Mrs. Parker also shared David Higgin’s comments when they have been advised about the event here in Samoa: “You know on this part of the world in Europe, I don’t think anybody will have a special prayer day for Anthony Joshua.”

Mrs. Parker added she is happy with the initiative and Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi has been invited to provide words of encouragement for Samoa’s son after the prayer service.

She added having this rally dedicated to Lupesoliai is a great encouragement in the build up to the much anticipated fight.

The first major boxing bout between Lupesoliai and Joshua is scheduled for 1 Sunday, 2018.

TV3 will be hosting a special live screening at the Orator Hotel where corporate tables are available and buffets to watch the match.
