Upolu and Savai’i Boxing Ring continued its third round of weekly boxing last weekend.

Held at the Poloa Compound at Vaitele, 10 normal bouts from the 30kg pin going on to the 81kg light heavy weight went head to head last weekend. This was followed by the final two special bouts of the 75th kg middle weight and 91kg Heavy Weight division. 

Daniel Alofipo of the Sailimalo Club defeated his opponent Poufa Faleolea, from the Fa’amalosi Club, in the 30kg pin weight division.

Tino Isitolo of the Faamalosi Club won against James Seilasa of the Toamua Club during the 35kg Pin. Michael Tutoatasi of Toamua defeated Tailua Mika of the Faamalosi Club in the 38 kg mosquito weight.

Lotu Poutoa Hall of Leauvaa defeated Aleni Vaimalae of Faamalosi Club in the 42kg mosquito senior division.

Last Tuna of the Tautai Palisi punished his opponent, Fou Masina, from Leauvaa, in the 48kg light fly weight division.

The special bout fight of the 75kg middle weight saw Jancen Poutoa of Tautai Palisi defeating Ioane Lafaele of the Faamalosi Club, with 91kg Heavy Weight division Roketi Fata of 2loulava hammering Brian Alofipo of the Sailimalo club.

The Upolu and Savai’i Boxing ring weekly boxing programme aims to produce and identify young amateur local boxers to represent Samoa.

Samoa Amateur Boxing Association General Secretary, Faletolu Su’a said they are working on getting a strong team from their ring to try out for the upcoming youth boxing team next month.

“On the 24th and 31st of March will be the last two fights for Upolu Savaii to finalise their Youth Boxing Team for the upcoming trials.” 

“Samoa Boxing Association has already selected the team’s management, with trials starting from 3-7 of April, and the camp to start on 9 April.”

The team will have nine male boxers and four female boxers to represent Samoa.
