School girls get their Game on

23 February 2016, 12:00AM

Saturday mornings have just become a whole lot busier at Gym 3 with the introduction of the School Girls Netball Competition.

It is the latest hang out for young netballers, volunteers, coaches, officials and supporters.  Twenty teams are involved in this competition from surrounding schools like Pesega Middle School, R.L.S.S, Samoa Primary and Vailima Primary, clubs teams from Hyundai, United Soulz and Oriana.

Unfortunately, teams from Vaitele Primary School pull out last minute.

Nonetheless the draw continued with teams made up from some of the children watching on the sideline.

Netball Samoa C.E.O, Rosemarie Esera, says the start of the competition has been extremely exciting.

“The children absolutely loved playing the game and I had many children come up to me at the end of the game with a huge smile and were ecstatic to tell me they had scored a goal or got an intercept in their game!,” she said.

“It was such a positive atmosphere and really can’t wait to get going again this week.”

Netball Samoa office will be conducting an Oriana Netskills Programme every Wednesday 3-4.30pm for children in Year 3-8 at Gym3 starting on the 24th February.

This is a basic netball skills development programme.

The six-week programme will focus on specific netball skills – ball skills, footwork, attacking, defence, specialist positions and court play.

Registration forms available from the Netball office in Lotopa or call 27528 or 724 6909 for further details.  Cost for the programme is $15.00 per person.
