SADLY MISSED: Inspector Maotaoali’i Kaioneta Kitiona.

The sudden passing of Police Inspector, Maotaoali’i Kaioneta Kitiona, while on duty yesterday, has left the Ministry of Police in shock.

A father and a husband, Maotaoali’i will be missed, said Police Superintendent and Media Spokesperson, Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo.

“He’s an asset to the Ministry,” he said. “While there is so much more that can be said, even I am at a loss for words of his sudden passing.”

According to Auapaa’u, Maotaoali’i was the Officer in Charge of the Faleata Outpost.

“He has served his people and his country through his service in the Police and we will miss his input given his vast knowledge in our line of work,” Auapaa’u said.

In 2016, Maotaoali’i at one time served as the Media Officer for the Police and appeared weekly to provide updates on weekly issues.

Also in 2016 he was heavily involved in the dismantling of gangs in Apia.

At the time, Maotaoali’i called on Village Councils to play their part in trying to take control of the emergence of a gang of young, lawless unemployed males, which was causing grave concerns for the public and the police.

Fast forward to today, there are no more gangs in the streets of Apia. The emergence of gangs led to the establishment of the “Safe City” operation by the Police to make sure that Samoa is free of these behaviors.

The Ministry of Police also expressed their sincere condolences to the grieving family.

Efforts to get comments from the family have been unsuccessful as of press time.
