Home defines a person and it gives a sense of belonging.

To call your place a home is to have proper shelter where you can enjoy every moment of your time with your family members.

Sadly this is not true for Fa’aoloaga Satuala, 37, from the village of Nofoali’i-Uta.

Mr. Satuala is a father of three children who met the Village Voice team yesterday morning.

Mr. Satuala said life had been very difficult for him and his family because of their home and he was seeking assistance.

“The shelter we are living in today still does not have flooring,  as you see it is made out of rocks and tiny stones.

“The hardest part about our shelter is during the rainy days, we aren’t able to sleep at night because the water enters our house.

“We just had our running water connected not long ago and it cost us $1,300 to get the water here to our place. That money all came from my work and the money that I have been saving.

“This is so far the best I can do for our shelter in order to live here with my wife and children.

“We have been living here for almost three years now and this is all we can afford for us. We are still using kerosene lights up to now.”

Mr. Satuala said life is a real struggle for them because they were unemployed and they couldn’t support their family financially.

“Our family is surviving through coconuts that I sell and some of the crops from my plantation and that’s about it.

“My wife doesn’t work because my children are still young and that’s why I’m the only one who’s working at the moment to support our family.

“Another problem we are still facing here with our family is that we still don’t have access to electricity.”

Mr. Satuala said he needed  proper shelter for the sake of his wife and children.

“I feel sorry because my children will soon be going to school and it will be hard for them to do their homework while we don’t have electricity.

“I really need help for proper shelter because what we have cannot protect us when bad weather strikes.”
