A couple from the village of Faleasiu is in need of proper water supply.

Lagi Manuia and Fesola’i Sootaga Manuia have just recently moved to their family land in Faleasiu with the hopes of starting their own family.

Unfortunately, Ms. Manuia told the Village Voice team yesterday, proper water access is a huge problem for the villagers.

“We really need access to water in order for us to do our cooking, washing our dishes and our clothes,” Ms. Manuia said.

“That is one major problem for us; we have to fetch water from one of the families. We have to pay $10 tala for filling our one gallon.

“I know nothing is for free nowadays, but we are thankful that this family only makes us pay less in order to get water.

“We usually spend $20 tala on water every week and we both make sure not to waste water. It is a blessing for us now that it is raining so I am stay home and make sure to use buckets to collect rainwater.

“We moved to this land at the beginning of this year and we started cleaning the whole place and we built our house using what we have at the time.

“To us, we are picturing a better home in the future because this house (faleo’o) is the least we can do for now.

“During natural disasters and bad weather situations, this is one thing that worries us because our home is not strong enough.”

The couple plan to have children in the future.

“My husband is currently employed by Silver Construction and he is the only one who works,” Ms. Manuia said.

“I also do small vegetable gardens and plant other crops in return I can sell it to get money.

“However, we have a lot that needs to be done, but it all depends on the money that we get from my husband’s work and what we’ve been able to sell,” she added.
