Matai titles bestowed at Fasito’o-uta
The Sa Suā family at Fasito’o-uta welcomed 101 new matai titleholders yesterday.
The titles conferred included Su’a, Leautuli, Tiumalu, Tafaomalo, A’emalemalo and Malagamali’i.
High Chief of the family, Su’a Iosefo, blessed the new titleholders and reminded them that matai titles are all about serving and loving others.
“Being a servant and the thing about service is that it requires hard work, dirty fingernails and toes,” he said.
“To the new chiefs, when we put God first, all things fall into place. May his peace be with us today and forever. We need to have faith in God because he’s there for us every step of the way.”
New chief, Su’a Philip Collin said yesterday’s ceremony gave the new matais the blessing to serve the family.
“It’s a privilege for me and all the other members as well to have these particular titles,” he said. “We’re ready to serve our family.”
The ceremony ended with traditional formalities.
