The first touch rugby referee course level one is part of critical steps being taken to develop the sport in Samoa. The course makes up the Samoa Touch Rugby Incorporated’s (S.T.R.I.) strategic plan to develop officials which will help grow the sport.

The Pacific Rugby Players’ Welfare (P.R.P.W.) group has dismissed the significance of the Samoa Rugby Union (S.R.U.) securing a seat on the World Rugby’s Council, labelling it a “smokescreen”. P.R.P.W. Chief Executive and former Manu Samoa forward, Daniel Leo, said the decision continues World Rugby’s administration of the game like “those who found justification in segregation.”
