Intrepid travelers tie the knot in Samoa

When Herbert of Sweden met Sina of Samoa on a hike in the mountains of Nepal seven years ago– he never imagined that he would find himself in Samoa making another life changing trek.

This time it would be a hike up Mount Vaea and down the aisle at the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum to marry his Polynesian princess in her family’s home country of Samoa.

Sina is a New Zealand born Samoa.

She has returned to the Islands many times over, however this trip is special because she will be introducing her husband to her Samoan family for the first time.

“Herbert has never been here and I wanted to show him Samoa,” she said. “It was very important for my mum to have a wedding where it’s central for all my cousins, aunties and uncles from around New Zealand and Australia to come and meet him.”

The lovely couple looked relaxed as they sat and people watched at the S.T.A cultural centre.

Even though this is only Herbert’s second day in Samoa we find him decked out in his new Island threads  - a very formal looking ie faitaga.

After seeing all the men wearing them, he decided that he would purchase one for himself thinking it was the best thing to wear in the heat.

Upon first trying on the ie faitaga he discovered firsthand why the men looked so relaxed while wearing them and is contemplating on continuing this tradition in Sweden.

“I like it very much here, I find it so relaxing here with how friendly and relaxed people are here.”

As for Sina, she appeared rather relaxed for a bride to be, almost too relaxed as if she had done this before and sure enough Sina revealed to the Samoa Observer that this will be the couple’s second wedding ceremony after already celebrating a wedding ceremony in Sweden with Herbert’s family.

She also credits her tranquil complexion to the ease of coordinating with different hotels and wedding locations here in Samoa.

The couple hopes to squeeze in some sightseeing in between their wedding planning leading up to the big day.
