The new intake of the Leadership Samoa Programmeshave been told to be strong and courageous.

The message was conveyed by Reverend Dr. Siaosi Salesulu,of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa at Vailele, during the launch of this year’s programme at the Samoa Conference Room on Friday night.

Rev. Salesuluencouraged the class of 2016 to yearn for God’s power and to use their inner strength as they embark on their new journey.

“Go in the strength that you have,” he said. He reminded the class that commitment and humility are the main weapons they need for the journey. He also urged the class to use this opportunity to harness their leadership skills and to discover the talents within them.

“As you embark on this new journey, go with God,” he said. “God told us to be strong and courageous, for He will always be with us wherever we go.”

He reiterated how vital it is to have courage.

“We have a lot of strong leaders in our country, but most of them do not have courage. We want to see leaders who are able to stand up for what they believe is right for the people and stand by the people. We want to see examples and less talking.”

Being a leader is not so much about being popular, added Rev. Salesulu. “Being a leader is about being righteous and virtuous.”

High Commissioner of Australia to Samoa, Sue Langford congratulated the Chairman and Board of Leadership Samoa for their willingness to continue with nurturing future leaders of Samoa through this programme.

Turning to the class of 2016, she encouraged them to use the opportunity to enhance their ability to become effective leaders for the future.

Peseta VaifouTevaga, Associate Minister for the Ministry of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, addressed the gathering on behalf of the Prime Minister who is also the Patron of Leadership Samoa, and officially launched the Leadership Samoa Programme for 2016.

It was followed by a cocktail party to mark the beginning of this year’s programme.
