You’ve got to help yourself Samoa
Dear Editor,
Re: Why child labour exists in Samoa
It’s easy to make statements about youth unemployment and poverty, but the reality is that many unemployed Samoans don’t want to work or want to do what employers require, like turning up each day.
Poverty is a conscious lifestyle choice for many Samoans, just look around the villages around mid afternoon and see how many able-bodied men are sleeping on their grandparents graves or beach fales, instead of getting out and looking for a job.
The government isn’t there to pay lazy Samoans for not doing anything, they have a hard enough time paying for the necessities required to support the hard working Samoans that go to work every day and pay their taxes.
Get off your backsides and help yourself Samoa.
