From Savai’i and stepping out of his comfort zone

The youth being the future of their families and this country seems to be a topic that most people talk about.

We’ve all wondered about what they are doing to create a better future.

Many have succeeded in getting the jobs they wanted and many haven’t and because of that, some have lost hope.

However, a 26-year-old man from Sala’ilua Savaii is filled with hope and has come to Upolu to look for a job.

Meet Lolisi Elisara, who is currently staying at his uncle’s place at Vaitele Uta and helping him out while looking for a job at the same time.

“My parents are from Savaii but I’m staying here with my uncle’s family,” he says to the Village Voice.

“As you can see, I just finished cleaning out my uncle’s land here in Nu’u and making sure the plantation is developing well.

“I am unemployed so I try to make use of my time by helping out my uncle with some of the work that needs to be done.

“He works and I came here to clean these lands because I understand he’s a busy man and barely has the time to check on the plantation.

When asked about the difference between living in Savaii and Upolu, he said “the good thing about living in Savaii is that you get to work in your own lands but here in Upolu, there are hardly any more lands that belong to us because they have been sold.

“Although the cost of living is expensive, to me, living in Savaii makes it all simple because you don’t have to worry when you have no food because families in Savaii know each other so we share food and we help one another.

“Here in Upolu, I don’t know most of the people in this village but that’s okay, I didn’t come here for that, I came here to look for a job.

“I have 7 siblings and I’m the second child, some of my siblings work and I want to work too so I can have something to contribute to my family.

“I’m a hardworking person, honest too but I think what I like most about myself is how strong I am in doing any work.”

Samoa, if you want to help out Lolisi Elisara or know of anyone who wants to offer him a job, please contact him on 7245923 or 7667633.
