A 17-year-old male has been charged with theft and arson in relation to a fire that destroyed Coin Save’s Fugalei shop last Saturday.
This was confirmed by Police Spokesperson, Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu, yesterday.
“We viewed C.C.T.V footage from the shop and that really helped us in our investigation,” Su’a said.
Su’a said they are continuing their investigation and he did not rule out more charges and other suspects.
Last Saturday, officials at the Fire and Emergency Services Authority told the Samoa Observer that ‘Fire fighters were called to the scene at around 5am.’
A taxi driver, Talia Va’aelua told the Sunday Samoan that the fire started on the first floor of the two-storey building.
“I saw the fire when I came this morning to drop my passenger off at the Fish Market,” Talia said.
“When we passed by, I saw the building was on fire while fire fighters was trying to help the situation."
“It was quickly extinguished and thank God, no one was injured and only few goods were destroyed.”
Coin Save is owned by Tuituioaiga Teeking Weng, who was recently awarded the contract to run the Vaitele market.
